Current Events for the Kern Sierra Unit
Wind Turbine Project
Subject: Wind Turbine Project
Date: Thursday, July 7, 2011, 9:35 AM
Many of you have been contacted by wind turbine
companies to lease your land for wind turbines, or you
have them going in near you. Well, they
(Terra-Gen/Alta Wind Dev.) have signed lease
agreements with some of the property owners past where
we live in Section 35 and 36.
If you've ever been in or through Oak Creek
Canyon (and most of you have), the devastation through
here would be tremendous. The road would have to
come through here somewhere to access the above mentioned
sections. The effect it will have on the landscape as
well as the effect it will have on the herd of wild
horses is the ultimate price. If they come up our main
road, it will have to be widened and oak trees cut
down. If they put new roads in, they'll most
likely go up hillsides which will cause severe
erosion come winter months, the horses and
wildlife will also have their graze impacted, traffic will
also increase greatly in the canyon.
If any of you have concerns, perhaps you could help by
writing a letter of objection to this project and send
it to our Supervisor Zack Scrivner, the other members
of the Board of Supervisors and the Planning
Commission. Early responses by the public in regards
to the Pahnamid project which was going to overlook
Tehachapi, caused the developer to pull out of that
project. The same might happen
here. Contact info is listed below. A
simple letter showing objection to the Morgan Hills project
could be sufficient.
Kern County Board of Supervisors are listed on this
link. Zack Scrivner is Supervisor for our district,
letters should be sent to any/all of them:
http://www.co.kern.ca.us/bos/contact.asp
In case you're interested in reading about the
project, this is the link to the NOP (Notice of Preparation)
for the Draft Environmental Impact Report. You can
read all about the Morgan Hills project slated for our
area:
http://www.co.kern.ca.us/planning/pdfs/notices/morgan_hills_nop.pdf
Letters should be sent to:
Lorelei Oviatt and also to Michael D.
Hollier
Public Services Bldg
2700 "M" Street, Suite 100
Bakersfield, CA 93301
They do not take email letters unless your
email has an actual scanned letter with signature
attached to it, that way the document ends up in
the project record. So probably best if
letters are sent via U.S. Mail.
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE IF YOU HAVE A MIND TO HELP IN
THIS MATTER.
